Meadow Spring: It’s done

It’s done, finished, over…almost!

November has been my NaNoWriMo month and I’m super excited to say that I DID IT!

This has been the most words to have written in a single month ever. Okay, I’ll admit it. It’s the most words I’ve written at one time ever. I still have several more chapters to go before finishing my work in progress, but I’m so close now that the light at the end of the tunnel is glowing ever more brilliantly.

NaNo has taught me several things.

1. I can make time for anything that I WANT to do. Well, at least during the fall while we’re not processing chickens and running around like their headless counterparts. :)

2. It’s very rewarding to look back on something that pushed you to the limits.

3. I love to write. I mean, I really really really LOVE TO WRITE. I found myself crying and laughing with my characters. Then I would slap myself and say, “Are you crazy? You’re crying over something that you put your character through. You didn’t have to kill their hero off.” But you know what? I loved doing it! :D

I am forever indebted to my friend, Stephanie Morris for talking me into it. She is one amazing NaNo writer. Several years of winning in a row. Watching her count encouraged me to keep plugging along. I kept thinking that if I could just match her speed, I’d be able to do it. :)

For all of you who are still working on yours, keep going. Don’t give up. You can do it!

So what now?

Well, I’m going to finish this story. It’s oh-so-very-close and now that I’ve fallen in love with the characters, I can’t leave them hanging. I must give them a happily-ever after.

After that? Well, I’ve got another character rolling around in my head. She tried to take over this book, but I finally had to kick her out after promising to give her the number one spot in another book. She’s been cooperating since then…mostly.

Tomorrow marks the first day of December! Can you believe it?

What are your plans for the holiday season?

PS. Don’t forget to check out the post immediately prior to this one. Congrats, Katie ;)

  1. SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!! YOU CAN DO ANYTHING! I AM DANCING AROUND LIKE A CRAZY GIRL WITH YOU!!!

  2. Congratulations, Sheri! How exciting! I love that you laugh and cry over the things you put your characters through — I do too! LOL! And I think you just about have to in order to write a story where the characters draw you into their world and become real. Congrats, again! I’m very happy for you!

  3. That is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome, Sheri!! What a HUGE accomplishment, over 50k words in one month! Congrats, congrats, CONGRATS!!!!

I participated in NaNo and, while I won’t be making my goal of 50k words this month, I AM still pushing hard to accomplish my own goal I set a few weeks back–to finish TPA by the end of the year. Last night I passed 50k words total, and I am SO excited about it! I’ll be pushing hard to see this book finished before the new year shows it’s face!

  4. WOOHOO! Congrats again for being a NaNoWriMo winner! Isn’t it awesome!?! In 30 days you practically have a new book. So all those prolific writers who publish a book a month, we now know we CAN write as fast. HAHA.

Awesome job – that’s quite the accomplishment. :-)

My plans for the holiday season are to do a ton of writing (I didn’t have time to participate in NaNoWriMo because of college, but I’m on break in just another week) and to finally read Alexandre Dumas’ “The Count of Monte Cristo.” :-)

  6. Susan says:

YEAH!!!!! Isn’t it the best feeling? Great job! I so related with your next character – I had one of those too and he’s no sitting on the sidelines with duct tape over his mouth trying ever so hard to be patient!

  7. Ellajac says:

    Wow, great job!!! How exciting.

Now what? Do you plan to publish it? Will we get a chance to read it?

    Congratulations!

    • Ideally, I would love to get it published. Plan right now is to proof it, then proof it again and again. Once it’s as polished as I can get it, I’ll send it to my critique partners and have them proof it. Then, I hope to be able to try to pitch it to an editor or publisher. We’ll see… :)

  8. Stephanie says:

Sheri! Congratulations on finishing NaNo AND reaching the end of your novel! My goodness – this occasion deserves a keyboard smash of happiness!

    asdfghjasdfghjasdfghasdfghj!!!

I am so happy for you, :D
