Today I am super excited and honored to welcome MaryLu Tyndall to my blog. As many of you have figured out by now, she is one of my favorite authors. She writes historical romance packed full of adventure on the high seas. In addition to her writing, MaryLu is also a very sweet, Christian lady. There is nothing fake about her. Take a moment to read her blog. You’ll see what I mean. All of her posts are thought-provoking. Now, without further ado. Welcome, MaryLu!
Tell me a little about yourself and your family.
I was raised in South Florida where I fell in love with the beach and the tropical weather and also where I dreamed of pirates and romance! I have a degree in Math and spent several years working as a computer programmer at IBM. Yet during that time, I wrote stories as a hobby, never dreaming I would ever be published. I mean, I didn’t have an ounce of training. But God had other plans and 8 years ago, He opened the doors for my first published book, a story about a Christian pirate, The Redemption. Since then I’ve written ten books, one of which was nominated for the prestigious Christy Award! I currently make my home in Northern California with my wonderful husband, six kids and three cats.
What inspires you?
My passion for others to know that God is real, present, and powerful just like He was in the Bible, and that He loves them more than anything!
Share 3 random facts about yourself.
- Popcorn is my favorite food.
- I’d rather be on a tropical island than anywhere else!
- I’m a shy, introverted, hermit who doesn’t come across that way in person at all!
What relaxes you after a long day?
A hot bubble bath and a good movie
What do you like to read?
Historical Romance or Suspense
What is your greatest asset?
God has made me a good listener and one who can easily empathize with others
What are you working on right now? Tell us about your current book.
I’m currently writing a single title, Veil of Pearls, set in Charleston in 1811. It’s the story of a runaway slave, Adalia, from Barbados who is only a quarter black and who falls in love with a rich, pampered son of a plantation owner in Charleston. Morgan sweeps her into a world she has never known, an opulent world of glamorous parties, balls, and concerts. But her new life comes at a high price, that of denying her heritage as well as her God. How far is Adalia willing to go to win the approval of society and the heart of the man she loves? And when her secret is discovered, will that love be enough or will the truth ruin Morgan and send Adalia back into slavery?
What one piece of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Study the craft of writing but when you sit down to write, forget it all. Just write the story God puts on your heart. Don’t get caught up in the details (you can go back and fix those) and always remember if you’re bored writing it, your reader will be bored reading it.

It’s great to meet you! I’m a big fan of popcorn myself. Usually at night before bed. I’m stingy though, so my hubby has to pop his own bag.
My favorite all time book…I read so much and love so many, I don’t know! One that pops out at the moment is In the Still of the Night by Kristen Heitzmann.
1. The characters were real and flawed
2. The dialogue was snappy
3. The flirting and romantic tension was complete perfection and fun
4. The theme was spiritually deep and touching
5. The description was mesmerizing
6. The ending was sigh, swooning, perfect

Hey Sheri! Don’t enter me into this giveaway, as I already have Surrender the Dawn sitting in my TBR pile. I can’t wait! Just wanted to stop by and say how much I’ve enjoyed this series.
Oh! And I just got The Redemption (Your favorite) in the mail yesterday. YAY! Can’t wait to read that one!!
Guess I’m adding The Redemption to my list too:)
My all-time favorite? A very hard question. Hmmm…I’m going to have to say The Atonement Child by Francine Rivers.
1) Still a soft spot as one of my first real intros to good Christian fiction
2) amazing story of faith
3) deals with a tough subject without shying away from it
4) has a tender love story mixed in ~ and it’s two-fold. God’s tender love for Dynah and what love should really look like here on earth.
5) reminds us that God is always there and always in control, even when we cannot see it, cannot understand it. His plan is good.
6) shows His healing hand.
This story still makes me cry when I read it:)
Have read many of MaryLu’s books, love her work and enjoy having her with the colonial ladies, too at CACW! My favorite book, besides the Bible, is Anne of Green Gables because of characterization and setting and the story was really sweet enduring.
This was a great interview. I just love MaryLus books. She is a very talented writer and sticks to her values while doing so.

HUM??? I guess I did not read the question very well. Sorry about that. I listed my 5 favorite books. Oh well.
I am a faithful reader of her novels. She is so talented!!! I love her as an author.
Ok, I did not pay attention to the question.
My all time favorite book is: The Bible because it is the true and powerful Word of God, written by His Own Hand. But right after the Bible is MaryLu Tyndall’s The Legacy of the King’s Pirates series. It is all three books, although number one is by far the best. I adore Charlisse and Merrick is a gentlemen pirate. I connect to Charlisse as an abused child (mine was verbal). I have always wanted to marry a pirate from that century. Oftentimes on Halloween I dressed as one. When I found a Christian author who writes novels about pirates with biblical truths, I HAD to read it. And it was well-worth my birthday gift card to Borders!!!!!!! Thank you MaryLu for doing what God says.
My favorite book(s) is (are) actually the series the Daughter’s of Boston series by Julie Lessman.
1. They keep your attention from the start to the very last page.
2. Excellent storyline.
3. Fun characters
4. The adventure.
5. Of course, a little spice. =)
Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t commented before now but I’ve been out of town and then enduring some heavy jet-lag! Thanks for all your interest in my books! Plus, I’m enjoying seeing what some of your favorite books are and why. This really helps me as a writer but also now I have some extra books to add to my want-to-read list!!! God Bless!
Thank you so much, Sheri, for having me here!
