Homestead Howdy: K. Victoria Chase

Welcome to my blog, Tori. Thank you so much for agreeing to be here. Tell me a little about yourself.
I’m a thirty year old, single gal living and working in the Northern Virginia area. I’m originally from Virginia Beach, VA but have also lived in Colorado Springs, CO. My background is criminal justice and I now work in the counter-terrorism field. I started writing for publication two years ago after I began dreaming scenes for my first novel.

What inspires you?
When it comes to writing, reading the “first call” stories of other writers. I’m always encouraged to keep pushing myself because I know publication can and will happen.

Share 3 random facts about yourself.
  • Fact 1: I have several scars on my right arm due to a really bad idea to slam into my parent’s garage door while playing street hockey with my brother. My arm went through a window and I received about fifty-two stitches inside and out.
  • Fact 2: I’m a former federal law enforcement officer.
  • Fact 3: I first got hooked on Christian romance when I was a pre-teen. Mother thought the stories I were writing were getting a little too risque, so she introduced me to more ‘wholesome’ romantic stories, haha.
Ouch on the arm! lol to your wholesome stories. So fun! What relaxes you after a long day?
Watching television while sprawled out on my couch or in my bed after a great workout.

What do you like to read?
I love to read Christian romance but I’m also a fan of classical romance writers such as Jane Austen, and every now and then, I’ll read a paranormal or a mystery.
What is your greatest asset?
Good question! I think I’m pretty good at reading people. Perception or discernment can be quite helpful when interacting with others.

What are you working on right now? Tell us about your current book.
I’m currently working on a several projects. A freelance editor is editing a paranormal romance novella I’ve recently written which pits a human heroine against an alien hero bent on sacrificing the human race for the survival of his own. I plan to release that on Kindle. I’m also working on the second manuscript in my romantic suspense series of which a partial is a current semi-finalist in the Genesis. Thirdly, I’m conducting background research for the third book of the same suspense series.

Sounds really interesting. I can’t wait to read it! What one piece of advice would you give to other aspiring authors just like yourself?
Try not to doubt yourself. Entering contests for feedback is a great way to improve your writing skills, and to receive proof that you’re making progress.

We could all use a dose of confidence, heh? What would you like to ask the readers of this post?
What are your writing goals for the year? Are they specific and are you on a path to succeed?

How can my readers find you?

Great to meet you, Tori! I think it's cool that you're going to have a paranormal romance out soon. Congratulations! Let us know when it's out on Kindle.

My writing goals this year are to finish my current WIP and start researching for the next. I'm doing a historical romance series set in 1870s Kansas. My first novel is in the works for publication next year. But I'm just seeing where God takes me. Writing is a dream come true!

    Great interview, Sheri!

    Hi Brandi!

First off, congrats on your future publication! I will absolutely let people know when the paranormal is released.

It is good to have specific writing goals because then you have a clear idea of where you are going and what you want to accomplish. Keep going on your WIP!! :)

    Tori,
Congrats on finaling in the Genesis. I played street hockey once, and thought I got banged up pretty good. My bruised knees are a far cry from stitches. :)

Hi Tori, it was wonderful to learn a bit more about you and your writing. Wow…it's great that have are launching your writing career when you are so young. : ) It sounds like your other work experiences would give you some great ideas in info for romantic suspense.

Sheri, thank you for having me, this was fun.

Jessica, yeah after that accident we didn't play with the door down. In fact, we only played maybe a couple more times and then we stopped. I miss those days 😉 Thank you for the congrats!

Hi Carrie! I received my AARP card in the mail I believe the same week I turned 30, so I think that means I'm old 😉 I love writing romantic suspense!
